This
Lead Data Scientist - Solar Energy role is key in expanding existing data science capabilities in the energy assessment and analytics space. You will take the lead in the development, deployment, and validation of new models and product features that will empower customers to make informed decisions through robust tools and data. Working closely with the Head of Data Science, you will help define and execute strategic data science goals and empower team members in your region to achieve their goals.
You will be part of a group developing renewable energy digital products that will facilitate the energy transition. This entails working as part of a global team of fellow data scientists but also coming together to collaborate with members of software engineering and product teams to achieve product development goals. This role is a key piece in fostering collaboration across the global data science team and supporting team members within your time zone.
This role will report to our DNV office in Austin, TX.What You'll Do - Lead the development, validation, and management of models to support products focused on renewable energy, ensuring alignment with the company's long-term goals
- Implement models programmatically leveraging scientific computing to build robust and scalable solutions
- Drive continuous improvement of data science processes and methodologies
- Take ownership of strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Head of Data Science, guiding the team through complex challenges and ensuring successful execution across projects
- Oversee the delivery of data science projects, managing timelines and quality while coordinating with team members to ensure successful outcomes
- Mentor and guide the data science team, providing technical leadership, ensuring high-quality project delivery, and fostering innovation
- Communicate results and outcomes to technical and non-technical stakeholders, acting as the primary liaison between the data science team and leadership, and coordinating cross-functional collaboration with product and software teams
- Ensure documentation of data science projects, contributing to technical publications, and representing the team at conferences while identifying and evaluating third-party data or services that could enhance product offerings

QualificationsWhat Is required- Bachelor's degree or higher with 8+ years of experience
- Strong renewable energy domain knowledge: solar radiation, photovoltaics, meteorology, forecasting
- Strong competency with python scientific computing: numpy, pandas, jupyter
- Familiarity with software development tools: git, bash, CI/CD, unit tests
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
What Is Preferred - Good experience with model development, deployment and validation: ML, statistical, empirical, and physical
- Experience deploying containerized applications using Docker
