JOB SUMMARY
The Wookiee Fleet Project Lead will support the operations of the Solar Manager and the OFFprogram to further the sustainability initiatives of the Burning Man Project's Nevada Operations team.
This role will be responsible for managing the fleet of 60 solar generator trailers called "Wookiees," including aiding in building, upgrading, maintaining, documentation, and installing solar resources in Gerlach and Black Rock City (BRC). In addition to the physical aspects of the job, this role is required to learn and effectively use the essential workings of the solar infrastructure to identify and address issues. This role will involve managing the solar crew concerning Wookiee trailer projects.
This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt role, based in Gerlach, NV running from May to October, 2025

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Management of the Baby Wookiee Inventory and Upgrade Program (50%)
- Manage the maintenance and performance inventory of the "Baby Wookiee" solar trailers.
- Managing and leading the physical installation of upgraded equipment on the solar trailers (including new panels, wiring, batteries, bodywork, etc.).
- Perform maintenance checks regularly.
- Perform construction-related tasks involving mechanical work, welding, and carpentry.
- Apply solvents, sealants, or other protective coatings as required.
- Assist in the installation of electrical components, equipment, or systems.
- Measure and prepare areas identified for installation.
- Adhere to strict health and safety guidelines.
Fleet Management (25%)
- Lead and manage the deployment of the Baby Wookiees in Northern Nevada and in BRC.
- Assist in setting up temporary power grids for events and operations as needed.
- Swap and shift trailers when requested.
- Identify and address issues with trailers and find solutions.
- Must be comfortable driving a truck, trailer towing, and placement.
- Customer service for internal and external partners and customers.
Documentation and Tracking (15%)
- Record operational or environmental data daily and input it in the fleet tracker.
- Communicate concerns regarding safety, interpersonal crew relationships, and other information to the Solar Program Manager or the OFF Manager.
- Know, share, and use the proper communication pathways for escalating personnel issues.
- Create and maintain reports as instructed by the Solar Program Manager.
- Maintain an awareness of the operation timeline and plan and organize work accordingly.
- Ensure communications are prompt and professional and that needed discretion is maintained.
Other Duties: (10%)
- Keep regular business hours as the Solar Program Manager advises.
- Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Managers Manual, NVO Handbook, and Ranch Protocols.
- Be familiar with and act in accordance with Burning Man's staff policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
LEARNING AND TEACHING- Documentation - Assists in creating, publishing, and maintaining process documentation related to their assigned duties.
- Learning - Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED- Intermediate knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Intermediate knowledge of materials, methods, and tools for constructing or repairing structures and/or solar arrays.
- Beginning to intermediate knowledge of installation of equipment, machines, wiring, and/or computer programs.
- Knowledge of electrical and solar systems.
- Able to relocate to Gerlach, Nevada, for the entirety of the contract.
- Experience (1+ years) executing construction projects of varying complexity.
- Honest and ethical with a dedication to the Burning Man principles and behavioral standards.
- Dependable; fulfills obligations.
PREFERRED
- Knowledge of BRC, its departments, and operations.
- First-Aid knowledge.
- Experience working in remote wilderness and/or desert environments.
- Ensure all team members are provided with the necessary OSHA-approved safety equipment.
- Establish and maintain a clean and safe worksite while utilizing the necessary OSHA-approved safety equipment
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Must have a valid Driver's License and a good driving record
COMPENSATION:
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $19 to $20.00 per hour.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Off-playa: This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding and requires individuals with good physical health, and endurance. This will also include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
