Position Title: Van Driver (Tractor Truck)/MichiganDepartment: Logistics DRIVERS/OperationReports to: Route Supervisor/Plant ManagerPosition Summary:Responsible for driving a tractor and pulling a van trailer in accordance with DOT and all company guidelines in order to pick up baled material from multiple customers daily. Driver will operate a skid steer to collect baled recycle material and haul loads to various baling plants or MRF under seasonal weather conditions. Must adhere to DOT load balancing and load securement requirements. Driver must comply too all company safety policy, DOT hours of service and safety regulations. Provides basic customer service related to delivery issues and assists in resolving related problems.
Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities:- Performs complete DOT required pre and post trip inspection to tractor and trailer and documents utilizing the standard DOT forms
- Operation of company vehicles per DOT and safety company regulations
- Operation of Skid Steer in adherence to all DOT, OSHA and company safety regulations
- Notifies Route or Plant Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage
- Notifies Route or Plant Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleyways or potential safety hazards
- Communication with Route Supervisor or Plant Manager of route status and Customer Service Group
- Monitor gauges, dials, other indicators and ensure all necessary scheduled are performed regularly
- Fulfill assigned route pick-ups
- Operate hydraulic controls
- Properly load and unload baled recycle material and adhere to DOT load securement requirements
- Clean truck and compactor as needed
- Follows all safety policies and procedures
- Current forklift operator's certification
- Demonstrated ability to operate multiple types of vehicles and equipment safely in all weather conditions and working environments
- Demonstrated knowledge of recycling commodity classifications and grades of paper and plastics
- Demonstrated knowledge of commingled collection processes and allowable materials
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper DOT loading, transportation and shipping procedures for commodities
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
- Commercial Driver's license and safe driving record
- Ability to lift 75 lbs
- Ability to work a flexible schedule when necessary

- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Hiring Requirements/Preferences- Minimum 21 years of age
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Must meet company outlined driver minimum qualification
- Possess a valid Class A CDL (Class A with Airbrake endorsement)
- Minimum one year CDL driving experience or verifiable 150,000 log miles
- Strong Work Ethic
- Previous van/flatbed and forklift lift/skid steer experience desired
- Must meet or exceed the medical standard of DOT
- Must demonstrate the ability to follow directions
- Must be capable of performing all essential job functions including: heavy lifting, bending, and sitting for extended periods of time
- As verified by a current MVR/driver abstract, must meet all qualifications as defined under DOT regulation 49 CFR 383.51
- Must be able to complete and maintain driver log
- Must have the ability to maintain and or identify equipment maintenance needs
- Must be able to function in extreme temperatures and must be available for weekend work schedules
- Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical
- Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document
- Professional attitude & conduct
- Multi-task, interpersonal communication, problem solving, and time management skills are needed
- High degree of safety awareness and safety discipline
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times
- Willing to travel and work away from home when and if required
- Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and the policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by PRATT Safety and OSHA
- You will be expected to be flexible to the needs of our business, as we continually strive to meet and exceed the needs of our customers
- Random and Suspicion Drug tests are performed
