About this PositionThe Water Resources Engineer and Engineer Intern positions are non-supervisory roles that will assist with the oversight and delivery of the City's Water Resources Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Work is performed primarily independently, with work products reviewed by the Senior Water Resources Engineer periodically for overall effectiveness and adherence to policies, directives, and instructions.
Responsibilities (Intern)
- Manage assigned projects from inception to completion
- Review submittals from consultants
- Act as a liaison with consultants, external engineers, contractors, property holders, and various internal/external stakeholders
- Coordinate with Right-of-Way consultant team to acquire easements and property
- Attend bi-weekly or monthly meetings with the design consultant and contractors
- Complete engineering studies and investigations to complete technical evaluations and provide recommendations
- Complete field inspections for ongoing construction projects and provide summaries
- Review invoices and provide recommendations on approval
- Respond to public and inter-departmental inquiries relating to water and wastewater projects
- Prepare information and/or agenda items and provide recommendations to the City Council
- Interact with federal, state, and local regulatory officials during project designs and permitting
- Abide by safety rules and guidelines
(Engineer) Includes all the duties of an Engineer Intern, plus:
- Conduct bi-weekly or monthly meetings with design consultant and contractor
- Negotiate and implement engineering and construction contracts
- Approve and process invoices from consultants and contractors
- Coordinate with state's liaison and request reimbursements for loan/grant programs
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
(Intern) Includes the qualifications listed above, plus:
- Engineer Intern certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
(Engineer) Includes
all the qualifications listed above, plus:
- 4 years of related experience and/or training
- Professional Engineer license (or ability to become licensed within 6 months)
Necessary Skills (Intern)
- Ability to use GIS software
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering as applied to civil design and hydraulics associated with utilities and other associated facilities
- Ability to evaluate problems, develop & implement solutions, and make decisions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to meet all the physical requirements of the position
- Ability and willingness to use a personal vehicle for City business (with mileage reimbursed)
(Engineer) includes all the necessary skills of the Intern, plus:
- Knowledge of (and experience with) the design of water and wastewater distribution and collection systems, and water and wastewater treatment plants and systems
- Prior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness
- Skill in supervising the planning, development, and construction of utility engineering projects
- Skill in ensuring that engineering projects and plans comply with all applicable guidelines and regulations
- Good public speaking skills
- Skill in negotiating engineering contracts and construction change orders
