Description This position provides the opportunity for an individual to expand their skills, receive valuable on the job training, and assist with various recycling projects within the City of Lino Lakes. Areas of concentration will include waste reduction, organics recovery, business and community outreach, and monthly recycling day. The primary objective of this position is to provide support and assistance to the City Environmental Coordinator in recycling initiatives for the city.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist with the development of programs to increase recycling participation in residential, schools, and business.
- Develop a Business Champion Program for the city.
- Assist with community outreach and promotion of recycling.
- Assist with the city's monthly recycling day.
- Establish a public park and building recycling program.
- Investigate opportunities for organic recycling.
- Prepare and present public presentations as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES- Software programs, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Post-Secondary education or training in a related field such as material resources, environmental studies, environmental science, policy and management or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience; or a demonstrated capability to perform job duties.
- Knowledge of recycling and waste reduction.
- Ability to compile statistical information.
- Interest in solid waste management and the environment.
- Available to work up to 29 hours per week and occasional weekly meetings.
- Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Participation in environmental community activities.
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies or related field.

WORK ENVIRONMENTOffice and outdoor environments; will be expected to work outdoor recycling events and go around monitoring outside recycling and organic stations; significant exposure to computer screens; the noise level is usually quiet, although the ability to work with noise and distractions is required; this position works in a cube setting.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORKThis is a temporary part-time internship. Normal business hours, recycling Saturdays, and an occasional evening meeting.
