ROLE SUMMARY As the Sr. Automation & Controls Engineer you will be responsible for the integration of new construction projects for renewable energy power plants (mainly, BESS/Solar/Hybrid/Substation). You will be part of a team dedicated to the delivery of Digital/Automation solutions to our customers. Your role will be focused on the readiness of the project and the commissioning phase until project close out. The role includes support from the early stage of the project, including support in the engineering phase aiming at ensuring quality of project delivery and also expediting the start-up, commissioning and close out of the project. The scope encompasses the support of the following products: automation/logic controllers, HMI/SCADA, Industrial Networking, IoT solutions, Metering/IED connectivity, etc. While the new plant construction work will represent most of the responsibilities, you will also be asked to provide after-sales customer expert support for incident and troubleshooting. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES Commissioning and automation integration for power plants construction projects: Support/review design of the automation system (instrumentation, control, Industrial networks, Automation logic, SCADA systems, etc.) Contribute to the development of automation system testing process Develop and track commissioning plan and schedule Lead the execution of the automation systems commissioning (FAT, cold/hot commissioning, SAT) with the support of electrical engineering team with a blend of remote and on-site activities. Coordinate all activities with internal stakeholders and vendor/contractors. Track automation systems commissioning issues and lead them to resolution. With the support of the cybersecurity SME, ensure application of cybersecurity best practices and verification at project completion. Ensure full coordination and compliance at project hand-off with customer, Grid operator, TSO/ISO Market protocols, and applicable regulation (e.g. NERC, NERC CIP). Responsible to collect and produce commissioning documentation to ensure best in class Quality Control. Coordinate and/or deliver automation solutions training Support O&M team in the transition phase of the project to enable them to take over the operation Perform and/or coordinate hands-on system configuration and troubleshooting for: Automation/Instrumentation devices SCADA applications & infrastructure Industrial communications & networks Act as the Automation SME to lead internal process improvement to ensure time and quality delivery. Support efforts of project & technology standardization to optimize projects. Work on incidents and change management requests in close coordination with the Automation team. Provide 24/7 support as an escalation for critical incidents on an on-call duty rotation. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor degree in Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of relevant Automation/control systems work experience. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the power/utility/renewables industry. Ability to produce and review technical documentation (e.g. commissioning reports, troubleshooting guide, incident report) Exceptional troubleshooting skills and rigorous approach to problem solving Advanced proficiency in Automation system configuration: PLC, SEL RTAC, Metering, IEDs, etc. Advanced proficiency in industrial communications: Modbus, DNP3, OPC-UA, MQTT, etc. Advanced proficiency in SCADA platforms: SEL HMI, Ignition, etc. Good knowledge of IT hardware and middleware to run SCADA systems and OT applications: Linux/Windows OS, SQL DB, Server hardware Advanced proficiency in Industrial networks communications and systems (switches, Eth/FO converters, packet analysis tools, etc.) Proficient in: Microsoft Word, Excel use of Excel Macro, Visio, Power Point Ability to be on 24/7 on-call rotation and exceptionally work off hours as needed Sungrid is currently only considering candidates located in AR, AZ, CA, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, LA, MA, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NJ, NV, OK, PA, TN, and TX.
