POSITION INFORMATION LABORER II Neponset Labor Yard, Dorchester 11/10/24-03/15/25 (18 weeks) 40 hrs: SHIFT VARIES/WEEKENDS REQUIRED, 4 position(s) About the Department of Conservation and Recreation: The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. DUTIES: Performs various manual labor tasks to assist in the work of skilled tradesmen such as carpenters, plumbers, and masons. Performs tasks related to the installation of drainage, sewer, and/or water pipelines. Digs trenches and similar excavations, refills excavations, and spreads and levels materials. Sets and repairs curbing; patches broken or eroded pavement. Installs, repairs, and maintains signs. Plants, transplants, prunes, trims, and fertilizes trees, flowers, and shrubs. Loads and unloads trucks; unpacks and stores supplies and equipment. Operates hand-held power tools and motor vehicles in connection with assigned unit activities. Performs related duties as required. Salaries are based upon full-time/40 hours worked per week. Work schedules and days off are at the discretion of the Supervisor. This position may require working weekends and/or holidays. Please note: If you are selected for this position and will be working less than 90 days, the position will automatically revert to a short-term position. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least six months of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in performing manual labor in connection with general construction or maintenance work.
