POSITION INFORMATION LABORER II Stony Brook Labor Yard, Hyde Park 11/10/24-03/15/25 (18 weeks) 40 hrs: SHIFT VARIES/WEEKENDS REQUIRED, 3 position(s) About the Department of Conservation and Recreation: The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. Job Summary: The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Seasonal Laborer II. DUTIES: Performs various manual labor tasks to assist in the work of skilled tradesmen and craftsmen such as carpenters, plumbers, and masons. Installs drainage, sewer, and/or water pipelines, including positioning, joining, and sealing pipe sections. Digs trenches and similar excavations, refills excavations, spreads and levels dirt, gravel, and other materials. Sets and repairs curbing; patches broken or eroded pavement using various paving materials. Installs and maintains signs by digging holes and installing supports. Plants, transplants, prunes, trims, and fertilizes trees, flowers, and shrubs; performs related tasks for the upkeep of public grounds. Loads and unloads trucks; manages supplies and equipment in stockrooms. Operates hand-held power tools and motor vehicles in connection with assigned unit activities. Performs related duties as required. Salaries are based upon full-time/40 hours worked per week. Work schedules and days off are at the discretion of the Supervisor. This position may require working weekends and/or holidays. Please note: If selected for this position and working less than 90 days, the position will revert to a short-term position. Short-term positions are not part of the salary scale advertised within this job posting; salary rates will be discussed during the interview phase. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least six months of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in performing manual labor in connection with general construction or maintenance work.
