Opportunity Summary The Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician plays a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of plant operations by expertly maintaining and repairing critical instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment. This role involves performing preventive maintenance, calibrating and troubleshooting equipment, and analyzing data from diagnostic technologies such as PLCs and DCS. Additionally, the technician will support the early identification of system defects and ensure timely repairs to minimize downtime and enhance plant performance. Primary Functions Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment, systems, and emergency backup systems. Inspect, repair, install, and remove various motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signals, communication systems, and storage batteries; work with electrical systems up to 4160 volts. Troubleshoot and analyze DCS, PLC, and related turbine control equipment. Perform periodic calibration and maintenance of Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEMs) equipment. Provide technical support for vibration and reliability issues; utilize advanced technology to detect machinery defects early enough for planned downtime repairs. Employ vibration, infrared, and ultrasonic technology during reliability routes. Analyze data collected during reliability routes, identify machinery defects, and submit work requests for repairs. Forecast, inventory, and reorder spare parts to ensure plant reliability. Maintain complete files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment. Participate in the administrative upkeep of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records. Complete other tasks as requested by the Tracy Maintenance Superintendent. Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility. Fitness for Duty All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. Work Schedule This position offers a 4-day, 10-hour shift, in a California alternative work schedule. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Travel as required to support additional NAES power plants with the San Joaquin Energy portfolio. Compensation The initial starting compensation will range from $50.87 to $64.18 per hour and will include an annual performance bonus. Job Qualifications Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment, typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program or 2 years of work experience as a technician in a related industry is desirable. Proficient in maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment up to 4160 volts. Strong knowledge of PLC and DCS systems, including calibration and diagnostic techniques. Experience with diagnostic technologies such as vibration analysis, infrared thermography, and ultrasonic testing. Familiarity with the calibration and maintenance of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS). Ability to interpret electrical schematics, technical manuals, and control diagrams. Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on proactively identifying and resolving issues. Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and report technical findings clearly. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work independently while ensuring compliance with safety standards. Adaptable and willing to support plant operations by taking on additional responsibilities as needed. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license at all times.
