(IEI) Houston Office is looking for an experienced Vice President of Operations (VPOP) to join our Team We are a leading engineering firm known for quality, responsiveness, and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm. As the VPOP, you will be responsible for the leadership, morale, growth, and direction of the IEI Houston Office. You will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee operations activities and ensure development and implementation of efficient operations. The VPOP will also help to develop the strategic direction of the office and executes and implements that strategy within the market areas and works closely with firm leadership in planning and execution of corporate policies and goals that encompass company operations, marketing and business development strategy, personnel, financial performance and strategic growth. In addition, the VPOP will be responsible for providing guidance, support and oversight of the efforts of the design and construction inspection team to ensure delivery of high-quality engineering services in a timely, efficient, and profitable manner with an emphasis on client satisfaction. Join us on this exciting journey as we continue to build a company based on Integrity, Excellence, and Ingenuity Essential Duties/Functions And Responsibilities Actively engages in supervision of design and inspection to ensure IEI policies and procedures are adhered, identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided, and works closely with Executive Vice President and HR in hiring, firing, rewarding, recognizing and disciplining staff. Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet firmwide goals while providing expertise and guidance on the Houston Market. Collaborates with other Market Leaders and Departments to carry out the Firm’s Mission, Goals, Values, and Objectives. Communicates and implements operational policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent execution. Develops forecasts for staffing needs in comparison with available capacity locally and firm wide. Ensures all projects comply with Quality Control guidelines to improve overall project quality and accuracy. Ensures project delivery team monitors clients’ project delivery goals and proactively identifying issues and obstacles which may compromise or influence achievement of such goals. Ensures project delivery team safeguards firm’s exposure against risks associated with scope and scope creep, fees and schedule by actively monitoring them and promptly communicating deviations to the clients. Ensures project delivery team secures executed contracts, Notice to Proceed and Subconsultant Agreements prior to inception of project services. Establishes and administers the Houston Market/Office budget. Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the Houston office. Manages technical staff within office and coordinates with other office leaders in assigning and securing required technical and other tangible resources for project delivery. Oversees and provides direction to all disciplines to ensure delivery of all project elements (plans, specs, permits and reports etc.) are technically accurate. Oversees and provides direction where needed on contract negotiations with clients in development of scope, fees, and schedule. Regularly coordinates and updates Executive Vice President regarding the performance of the office and presents periodic performance reports . Office projects receives a Minimum Formal Evaluation or Feedback of “Satisfactory” or Equivalent from Clients. Ensures project delivery team complies with IEI’s QA/QC and/or client mandated QA/QC policies and procedures. Membership and Professional Development Participates in at least two professional associations. Attends at least two events related to industry or career annually. Attend at least one training and professional development activity annually in accordance with IEI policy. Works in collaboration with staff in identifying and actively promoting professional development of office. Demonstrates positive work attitude and behaviors. Participates in team building initiatives. Participates in Strategic Leadership Team and complete at least one new Committee Assignment annually. Utilization Goals Strives to meet average annual utilization of 35% Financial Regularly monitors project progress and budget and ensures project delivery team completes projects within the allocated budget and schedule. Ensures all members of project delivery team are aware of and actively monitoring budgets on recurring basis commensurate with job classification. Ensures all assigned members of project delivery team are complying with Invoicing protocols and schedules and working actively in pursuing collections and AR's. Works closely with SLT in achieving established revenue and profitability goals. Marketing and Business Development Proactively participates in industry and community functions and activities that promote IEI's visibility and brand. Proactively interfaces with and solicits meeting with both existing and potential clients to cultivate existing relations and identify other business opportunities. Identify and strategize business development opportunities in close synchronization with colleagues. Oversees and contributes in preparation of technical proposals and other marketing efforts in a timely manner. Recruitment Develop office and firm's strategic capabilities and capacity by recruiting staff in close coordination with colleagues. Participates in the IEI Employee Referral Program as qualified candidates are identified. Education And/or Experience Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four‐year college or university or approved equivalent. Possess 10 years of industry related experience. Minimum 3 years of experience in upper management required. Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations Active registered Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer required. Additional registrations and accreditations (i.e. LEED AP, Certified Floodplain Manager, PTOE etc.) are desired. Other licensure or registration (must require Continuing Education to remain active) may be considered in lieu Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer licensure. Travel This position requires frequent local travel and moderate travel to other IEI offices and markets.
