The Opportunity: The Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy workplace by identifying, evaluating, and controlling environmental hazards in our laboratory, manufacturing, and office environments. This role involves implementing and managing programs that protect employees from chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards. The CIH will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and facilities management, to support the company's safety and compliance goals. Ideally would like candidates to be close to a chemical manufacturing site - Phillipsburg, NJ, Solon, OH, St. Louis, MO, or Bakersfield, CA. Can work remote / hybrid. 30% travel required. How you will thrive and make an impact: Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment: Conduct comprehensive industrial hygiene assessments in laboratories, manufacturing areas, and other facilities. Identify potential hazards, including chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic risks. Develop and implement control strategies to mitigate identified risks. Monitoring and Evaluation: Perform air, water, and surface sampling to monitor potential exposure to hazardous substances. Evaluate the effectiveness of existing control measures, including ventilation systems, personal protective equipment (PPE), and work practices. Analyze sampling data and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for improvement. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations. Maintain and update industrial hygiene records, including exposure monitoring data and safety audits. Prepare and submit necessary regulatory reports and documentation. Program Development and Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive industrial hygiene programs, including respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and chemical safety. Provide guidance on the selection and use of PPE. Lead the development of emergency response plans for chemical spills and other industrial hygiene-related incidents. Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs on industrial hygiene topics, including hazard communication, PPE use, and safe work practices. Educate employees on the recognition and control of workplace hazards. Serve as a resource for employees and management on industrial hygiene issues. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with R&D, manufacturing, and facilities teams to integrate industrial hygiene considerations into project planning and operations. Provide technical support and guidance to management on industrial hygiene matters. Communicate industrial hygiene issues and solutions to all levels of the organization, including senior management. What we're looking for: Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation required. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial hygiene, preferably in a life science, pharmaceutical, or related industry. In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations. Experience conducting exposure assessments and implementing hazard control measures. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency in industrial hygiene monitoring equipment and software.
