The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) brings together philanthropy including the IKEA Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation and the Bezos Earth Fund, governments, technology, policy and development partners, and the private sector to tackle the twin challenges of energy access and transition in emerging and developing countries. By 2030, we aim to expand clean energy access to one billion people, enable 150 million new jobs and reduce 4 gigatons of future carbon emissions. GEAPP is seeking an Editorial Director to work as part of a global team driving progress on the green energy movement that is urgently needed to transform lives and livelihoods and the planet we live on. The Editorial Director is an integral member of the GEAPP communications team and will work across GEAPP and with Alliance partners to develop and execute a comprehensive editorial strategy that amplifies our mission and showcases the impact of our initiatives. This position requires an experienced writer, creative storyteller and/or journalist with an excellent understanding of energy, climate, and development. The Editorial Director must be able to craft compelling narratives and reports, engaging diverse audiences across various channels. Reporting to the Managing Director of Communications, the Editorial Director will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to enhance GEAPP’s visibility, influence, and impact in the global energy and climate space. Key Responsibilities: Writing: Craft engaging thought leadership, articles, blogs, case studies, press releases, reports and speeches that highlight GEAPP’s mission and work at the nexus of energy access and transition for a global audience. Messaging: Lead and oversee the management of key messaging including across GEAPP’s content library, which includes oversight of key materials such as cross organisational messaging tools, pitch decks, and brochures. Partnership Collaboration: Work closely with Alliance partners and GEAPP Leadership Council to co-create editorial content that drives GEAPP’s communications, advocacy, and policy goals to achieve a just energy transition and universal energy access across emerging economies. Editorial Strategy: In collaboration with GEAPP’s communications team, develop and implement an ambitious editorial strategy that tells impactful stories about GEAPP's work, integrating insights from across the organization and the broader climate and energy landscape. Utilize audience insights to tailor messaging and ensure impactful communication that resonates with various stakeholders. Qualifications: University degree in journalism, communications, media, international studies, climate or a related field. 10 years of experience as a journalist, writer, editor, or editorial manager, with a strong understanding of current affairs, energy, climate and development trends. Experience in renewable energy, climate change, or international development sectors is highly desirable. Exceptional writing and storytelling abilities , with a proven track record of producing compelling narratives for diverse voices, and leveraging varied sources and research. Writing & Editing: Mastery of skills required to write and edit effective and engaging texts. Strategic Ability: Ability to see opportunities, design innovative approaches backed by strong analysis and planning. Strong sense for messaging, themes and techniques that resonate with global audiences and media. Execution: Strong project management skills, deadline management, sense of responsibility and accountability and the ability to effectively multi-task. Coordination: Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality outputs.
