About the Role:
The Corporate Environmental Engineer will be responsible for environmental compliance with state and federal regulations for all IP operating segments. This position will be focused on air, water and hazardous waste regulatory compliance and management systems support. The individual will interface with a diverse group of customers including operations, maintenance, plant management, business leadership, consultants and regulatory agency staff.
Responsibilities - Assist the Corporate Environment Manager to develop, execute, sustain and continually improve program management for all IP Corporation environment programs, including: Air Quality, Solid & Hazardous Waste, Wastewater, Stormwater, SPCC, EPCRA Tier 2, TRI, Pollution Prevention, ISO-14001 EMS, and Release reporting.
- Support the environmental management efforts of all IP Corporation Plant EHS Managers.
- Assist in responding to regulatory agencies before, during and after inspections or other inquiries, and work with plant leadership, Corporate EHS and Legal to resolve, as needed.
- Assist in developing and presenting environmental training, and educating and mentoring other IP Corporation staff as directed.
- Specific assignments will include:
- Documenting environmental management processes and developing standard work documents.
- Complete and file mandatory local and federal environmental and sustainability reports on time.
- Support and improve IP Corporation's environmental permitting strategies.
- Review and comment on the environmental needs of proposed CapEx projects including compilation & submittal of all needed environmental permit modifications.
- Investigate root causes of spills and releases.
- Federal and State Rule Interpretation and Forecasting.
- Inspections, Reports, and Presentations for Internal and External Stakeholders, including ISO-14001 EMS internal audits.
- Improve/Execute methods for monthly & annual air emissions calculations at all plants.
- Evaluate wastewater and stormwater analytical results and report to regulatory agencies.
- Evaluate solid waste streams for hazardous waste determination, and transportation & disposal.
- Develop and deliver training for plant employees to comply with environmental regulations and other requirements.
- Other duties as directed.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in engineering (chemical or environmental) or comparable science (e.g., chemistry, environmental science, biology).
- 7+ years' experience. 3+ years in a chemical/manufacturing plant environmental or EHS role.
- A solid understanding of operational processes within the chemical manufacturing industry and how the industry is regulated under all major federal environmental programs.
- Competent knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g. EPA, RCRA (LQG), EPCRA, CAA, CWA, SARA, CERCLA) and the ability to provide regulatory analysis, advice, and expertise for emerging, proposed, and existing regulations.
