Primary Objective The primary objective of this position is to oversee the daily operations of recreational programs at Bush Lake Beach, ensuring a safe, engaging, and enjoyable experience for all participants. This role involves providing work direction to lifeguards, providing them with guidance and direction to maintain high standards of safety and service. The position requires effective communication with staff and participants to address inquiries, resolve issues, and promote a positive, welcoming environment. Additionally, the role is responsible for assisting with the development and execution of water-based activities such as log rolling and paddleboarding, striving to maximize participation and satisfaction. By working closely with the Recreation Supervisor and Camp Kota Coordinator, this position helps to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of beach programs while upholding safety protocols and customer service excellence at all times.
Examples of Duties 1. Enforce Facility Rules & Regulations: Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by consistently enforcing facility rules and regulations, maintaining a secure environment for all aquatic activities.
2. Monitor Aquatic Activities: Supervise and actively monitor various water activities, including free swim, key log rolling, and paddleboarding, ensuring proper safety protocols are followed and that all patrons engage in activities safely.
3, Operate Safety Equipment: Appropriately operate safety equipment, including lifeguard rescue gear and first aid kits, ensuring that all safety measures are readily available and functional.
4. Rescue & Provide First Aid: Respond promptly and effectively to aquatic emergencies as needed.
5. Ongoing Cleaning Duties: Perform routine cleaning tasks throughout the day, maintaining a clean and organized facility to ensure a welcoming environment for all participants.
6. Customer Service: Treat all participants with courtesy and respect, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere while addressing any concerns or needs they may have.
7. Training & Development: Attend all scheduled in-services and training sessions, ensuring skills and certifications are up-to-date and that knowledge of safety protocols is maintained.
8. Support Camp Programs: Assist in the execution of the scheduled weekly camp programs, contributing to the overall success of recreational activities for participants.
9. Special Assignments: Complete special assignments and additional duties as directed by the Coordinator, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork as needed.
10. Environmental Education: Teach and promote respect for the environment, encouraging awareness and responsible behaviors related to water safety and natural preservation.
11. Promote Safety Standards: Educate patrons on water safety and promote high standards for safety, particularly regarding the inherent risks of aquatic activities.
12. Team Collaboration & Compliance: Work as a team member to ensure that all programs are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act, fostering an inclusive and accessible environment for all.
13. Follow Policies & Procedures: Adhere to all staff policies and procedures, ensuring that the organization's standards and regulations are consistently followed.
14. Additional Duties: Complete any other duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor, maintaining flexibility and a proactive approach to all tasks.
Minimum/Desirable Qualifications- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must be currently certified in Lifeguarding or a certified Lifeguard Instructor, or have ability to complete training.
- Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check.
Desirable Qualifications:- High school diploma and some post-secondary course work in related field.
- Prior experience as a lifeguard.
- Previous recreation experience, preferably in a camp setting.
- A willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities so they can participate fully in City sponsored Parks and Recreation programs.

$100 bonus on their final paycheck.
