Pay will be determined based on location of selected individual.Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla salary: $3,915.20Fairbanks salary: $4,032.80Juneau salary: $4,111.20What you will be doing:Looking to join a dynamic team managing Air Quality in Alaska? We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to become the Division of Air Quality's Program Manager for the Air Monitoring and Quality Assurance Program. The Air Monitoring Program conducts long-term and project specific air quality measurements statewide. The Program incorporates 3 sections: the regulatory monitoring section, which operates the state's long-term ambient air quality monitoring stations; the Data Management Section, which maintains the data acquisitions, provides data analyses, and manages the community sensor network: and the Lab and QA sections, which manages the air laboratories and oversees the QA/QC activities for the entire Division. This position reports to the Division Director and plays an important role in the Division management team responsible for ensuring that federal and state air quality requirements are met.

This manager directly supervises 4 staff, 3 supervisors and one senior staff position, and oversees the efforts of 14 program staff looking to conserve, protect, and improve Alaska's air quality through air quality measurements and direct work with the public, permitted industry, and stakeholders. We're looking for folks with great skills and experience in compliance and enforcement programs ready to take on an important leadership role within the Air Quality Division.

Some flexibility in work hours and duty location may be possible. The daily work is people and science based, requiring effective decision making, leadership, and management skills.
The working environment you can expect:This position will be filled in Juneau, Anchorage, Wasilla or Fairbanks, Alaska based on the location of the best candidate. All office locations offer a collaborative atmosphere. The incumbent will generally work in a hybrid telework or office setting. Under general direction, this position performs a variety of functions associated with supervision, management, delegation, and leadership to achieve the goals and requirements associated with implementing state and federal air quality rules and regulations.
We are looking for a candidate that has experience in the following areas: - Chemistry: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of the composition, structure, and properties of substances, and of the chemical processes and transformations, including uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods;
- Environmental Sampling: Knowledge of proper methodology and the design, installation, testing, repair, and/or maintenance of electrical and mechanical sampling equipment, components, instruments, and systems used for sampling environmental media to produce usable high-quality data to characterize and monitor the quality of the environment;
- Quality Assurance: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools of quality assurance and quality control used to ensure a product fulfills functional requirements and standards.
- Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results;
- Program Oversight: Plans, coordinates, and monitors programs to ensure that federal, state, and/or local government program requirements and plans are met, providing professional consultation on the specialized services of the program or associated project(s).
Special Notice:- Incumbent will be required to travel periodically to work with division staff in other office locations and to participate in community monitoring and planning effort.
