The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources strives to maintain healthy populations of fish andwildlife across the state. The employees of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife are passionate about the resource theymanage. The Wildlife Division of KDFWR is currently seeking a candidate to work within the Agency's Nongamebranch.
This is a grant funded time-limited (GFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to a GFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to a GFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. A GFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.
This position will be located at the KDFWR headquarters in Frankfort, KY.
Responsibilities and job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performs professional biological work in connection with research, monitoring and management ofsongbirdspecies of greatest conservation need as listed in Kentucky's State Wildlife Action Plan as well as raptors.
- Field surveys for at-risk avian species.
- Technical writing and grant reporting.
- Assistance with the development of management recommendations and policy decisions for at-risk avianspecies.
- Working with partners to implement conservation activities for at-risk avian species.
Preferred skills may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Preferred candidates are proficient with bird identification and handling.
- Successful candidate must have at least one year of experience working with nongame bird species.
- Substantial field experience.
- Scientific writing skills.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a biological science, wildlife biology, fish and wildlife management, conservation biology, natural resources, environmental sciences, or related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Must have one year of professional experience in wildlife management, wildlife biology and/or a related field.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:A master's degree in wildlife management, wildlife biology or a related field will substitute for one year of the required experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title spend the majority of time outdoors performing the job duties.
