Overview Stress Engineering Services Inc. We are seeking an experienced Metallurgical Laboratory Technician for our rapidly growing Materials Engineering Practice. The practice provides full-spectrum materials engineering support to companies around the world including materials selection, fabrication, corrosion engineering, welding, fitness for service evaluations, and failure analysis. Much of our work involves upstream and offshore oil and gas facilities, midstream pipelines, downstream refining and chemical plants, renewable energy sources and the aerospace industry. This position is onsite. Responsibilities This successful candidate will be responsible for the sample preparation, operation, maintenance, and calibration of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and attached EDS system, X-ray diffraction (XRD) equipment, metallography including mount, polishing, etching, sectioning samples and to support SES’s metallurgical laboratory and our staff of metallurgical/materials engineers as they conduct failure analyses and other materials project support for our clients. Qualifications Required: Knowledge of the principles and operation of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) system Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with an SEM/EDS systems Exhibit a strong spirit of cooperation and a supportive team player Quick learner and the ability to adapt to new systems and technologies Strong ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting requests Self-motivated; ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative Good documentation and house-keeping skills Applicant must have U.S. Person status to perform the duties of this position Preferred: Experience with sample preparation, operation, maintenance and calibration of a powder x-ray diffraction unit (XRD) and interpretation of results Knowledge of metallurgical laboratory functions including photography, metallographic sample preparation and etching, light microscopy, and hardness testing.
